Who am I?

I was born in Trinidad & Tobago, where I spent most of my childhood before moving to America. Transitioning to life in the states came with its own challenges. I struggled a lot with my personal identity, depression, and parental seperation, which often left me feeling isolated. To make matters worse, I was repeatedly bullied both physically and emotionally, because I looked and spoke differently from my peers in school. This made it hard to showcase my culture and be comfortable with my own appearance. For a long time I wore different masks portraying someone or something else in order to fit in. Additionally, I had to grow up at an early age as my mom worked tirelessly to provide for myself and my little sister. The drastic changes from life back home to new life in the states made it hard to feel truly like home. One day, I decided to share my struggles with mental health and depression online. As a Caribbean native, I became aware of the stigma surrounding mental health in my community and recognized the powerful impact I could make by speaking out. Day by day, it becomes more clear that my story could help others who look like me, sound like me, and are dealing with similar situations that I have dealt with or am currently going through. My purpose is to show my audience that it is possible to overcome something that feels never-ending. My goal is to remind them that they are not alone and we can overcome these struggles together. Cooking has always been an important part of my life, a constant reminder of my roots and priceless childhood memories back home in Trinidad. Creating content showcasing the recipes I grew up with and some recipes with modern-day twists allows me to celebrate my upbringing and heritage while deepening my appreciation for my culture and my identity. Plus whining & dancing in the kitchen is always a better time than just putting a pot on the stove. Take a whine in the kitchen on a Saturday morning and let me know how it feels. If you made it this far, I just want to say thank you for all your love and support.
