Breadfruit Chips
Ingredients
- 1 ripe or semi-ripe breadfruit
- Salt (to taste)
- Oil (for frying)
- ketchup sauce
Instructions:
Prepare the breadfruit
- Peel the breadfruit using a sharp knife to remove the skin.
- Once peeled, slice the breadfruit into thin rounds or chips.
- You can adjust the thickness according to your preference, but thinner slices usually crisp up better.( i made mines a little thicker because i like them soft)
Soak (optional):
- Soak the breadfruit slices in water for about 10 minutes to reduce starch, which can help make the chips crisper. This step is optional.
- After soaking them, pat dry them and get ready to fry.
Heat oil:
- Pour oil into a deep frying pan or pot (enough to submerge the slices) and heat over medium-high heat.
- You want the oil to be hot but not smoking—around 350°F (175°C) is good.
Fry the chips:
- Carefully add the breadfruit slices to the hot oil, a few at a time, so as not to overcrowd the pan.
- Fry them until they turn golden brown and crispy, about 4–6 minutes, depending on the thickness of the slices.
Drain and season
- Once fried, remove the chips from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain any excess oil.
- While they’re still hot, sprinkle with salt (or any other seasoning you prefer, like pepper or garlic powder).
- Now shake everything up and make sure it well seasoned.
Serve:
- Enjoy your crispy Trini breadfruit chips on their own or with a dip of your choice!
