Breadfruit Chips

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe or semi-ripe breadfruit
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Oil (for frying)
  • ketchup sauce

Instructions:

Prepare the breadfruit

  • Peel the breadfruit using a sharp knife to remove the skin.
  • Once peeled, slice the breadfruit into thin rounds or chips.
  • You can adjust the thickness according to your preference, but thinner slices usually crisp up better.( i made mines a little thicker because i like them soft)

Soak (optional):

  • Soak the breadfruit slices in water for about 10 minutes to reduce starch, which can help make the chips crisper. This step is optional.
  • After soaking them, pat dry them and get ready to fry.

Heat oil:

  • Pour oil into a deep frying pan or pot (enough to submerge the slices) and heat over medium-high heat.
  • You want the oil to be hot but not smoking—around 350°F (175°C) is good.

Fry the chips:

  •  Carefully add the breadfruit slices to the hot oil, a few at a time, so as not to overcrowd the pan.
  • Fry them until they turn golden brown and crispy, about 4–6 minutes, depending on the thickness of the slices.
Drain and season
  •  Once fried, remove the chips from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain any excess oil.
  • While they’re still hot, sprinkle with salt (or any other seasoning you prefer, like pepper or garlic powder).
  • Now shake everything up and make sure it well seasoned.

Serve:

  •  Enjoy your crispy Trini breadfruit chips on their own or with a dip of your choice!
